The Laplace-transform embedded discrete fracture model for flow simulation of stimulated reservoir volume

Abstract Hydraulic fracturing is a commonly adopted approach to enhance the production of unconventional reservoirs; however, resulted complex fracture network increases difficulty in prediction flow behaviors. In this work, for first time, we propose Laplace-transform embedded discrete model focusing on simulation fluid transport simulated reservoir volume (SRV). The main hydraulic represented explicitly by segments referring recently developed scheme, namely model. equivalent and multiple continua are employed characterize SRV. finite-different method used numerically among unstimulated volume, SRV, with sufficient flexibility arbitrary fracture/SRV geometries. As solution performed Laplace domain, backward Euler difference time discretization not necessary. Thus, stability convergence problems caused avoided. A series numerical test cases discussed examine performance proposed workflow validated through comparison real space. It demonstrated that accurate single SRV distribution. On basis model, provided three applications new method: (1) analysis effect behavior, (2) pressure transient considering heterogeneity, (3) time-varying rate.

Discrete dipole approximation in time domain through the Laplace transform.
We present a form of the discrete dipole approximation for electromagnetic scattering computations in time domain. We show that the introduction of complex frequencies, through the Laplace transform, significantly improves the computation time. We also show that the Laplace transform and its inverse can be combined to extract the field inside a scatterer at a real resonance frequency.
